Amazon API Gateway Gets Smarter: New Features for Security, Flexibility & Global Expansion

AWS has expanded the capabilities of Amazon API Gateway with key updates, including HTTP APIs support, mutual TLS (mTLS) for authentication, multi-level base path mappings, and AWS Web Application Firewall (WAF) availability in more regions. These enhancements provide improved security, better API management, and greater flexibility. HTTP APIs offer a lightweight, cost-effective alternative to REST APIs, while mTLS strengthens security by ensuring mutual authentication. Multi-level base path mappings allow structured API routing, and WAF adds protection against web threats in newly supported regions like UAE, Jakarta, Osaka, and Tel Aviv. What is Amazon API Gateway

Amazon API Gateway is a fully managed service provided by AWS that makes it easy for developers to create, publish, maintain, monitor, and secure APIs at any scale.

It acts as a front door for applications to access data, business logic, or functionality from backend services, such as applications running on Amazon EC2, code running on AWS Lambda, or any web application.

API Gateway handles all the tasks involved in accepting and processing up to hundreds of thousands of concurrent API calls, including traffic management, authorization and access control, monitoring, and API version management.

It supports RESTful APIs and WebSocket APIs, allowing for real-time two-way communication applications.

With API Gateway, you can create APIs that are optimized for serverless workloads and HTTP backends, and you can also set up throttling, caching, and logging to manage and monitor your APIs effectively.

Additionally, it integrates with AWS Lambda for serverless computing, AWS IAM for authorization, and Amazon CloudWatch for monitoring, making it a powerful tool for building scalable and secure APIs.
